Join the iFollow "Movement"

It’s been almost a week already since Bookmark Bliss officially jumped onto the iFollow bandwagon and I’m pleased to say that things seem to be business as usual around here. Our daily spam seems to continue at its regular pace (thank you Akismet for keeping us spam free) and I’ve removed only 2 comments so far that I felt were mostly just baiting for a linkback.
Yesterday, Randa Clay, the owner of RandaClay.com, stopped by with some information on her own iFollow Movement, that already has more than 20 different sites taking the plunge. She has even gone as far as generating a bunch of excellent graphics that anyone can add to their sidebar to show their support.
I think this is a great idea and you can already see the graphic in place on our own sidebar. I encourage everyone who hasn’t joined the movement to make the change to your own site. Removing the NoFollow attribute on links encourages more commenting and rewards visitors of your site for their contributions. It only takes a minute to remove it from your site so why not?
If you have some time and want to show your support for the iFollow movement, first remove NoFollow attributes from your own site and proudly show your own graphic. Also, spend your time visiting sites that also support the movement to show them how much you appreciate the fact that they put their community first when it comes to their sites.
You’ll benefit from doing so and they’ll benefit from you as well. It’s win/win!

Thanks for the mention! I appreciate it!
I’ve been yesfollowing for almost six weeks now, and I had seen some cool buttons to publicize the fact, but I’ve resisted so far since the existence of those might indeed make you a concerted target for spammers. While it’s difficult to check for the lack of something (i.e. the nofollow tag), it’s simple to check for the existence of a button like that. Even though SpamKarma is a champ, I’m just not interested in hanging out a sign to draw unwanted attention.
That’s an excellent point Shane. If my spam starts going through the roof because of the existence of that image, I’ll definitely pull it down.
Shane makes a good point, but I’ll bet increased participation in the comments will be a decent trade off for a bit more spam especially since the spam-grabbers do such a good job. Chris- I tagged you for a meme around this I Follow thing. If you’re interested in participating, check out the latest post on my site.
Great point, Randa. The point of this is to increase the motivation to comment, but how will they know unless you make it clear. That might make it necessary to have the image.
I jumped on the “I Follow” movement this morning and really don’t have many concrens about it because I don’t plan to scream to the world that I Follow. If someone wants to comment on your blog or posts they will whether they know search engines will pick up their link not. The image and having your site added to the “I Follow” movements will only bring people to your site looking to use you.
Hehe- notice I commented and didn’t leave my link. That’s because I’m not looking to leech off you. I honestly wanted to make my feelings known on this topic without hoping to gain anything in return
I just added it to my recent blog and haven’t gotten any spam yet. I like it so far!
