The easiest way is to just target blogs or directory indexes with the .gov and .edu domains. There are tons of blogs. After that, you can try emailing the sites and suggesting that they host your link. You'd be surprised how many people are willing to do that.

Thanks for the useful post!
I know .gov and .edu links are useful, but does anyone know how and where to get them?

check out the link to the blog post on that topic. Basically, if the author says if you search in google for:

site:.edu inurl:blog “comment" -"you must be logged in" -"posting closed" -"comment closed" “keyword"

It will bring you up a list of .edu sites that are blogs and have comments. A perfect way to get yourself links...

That is so funny that I never thought about getting links from .gov or .edu. I am sure that if I started to look for sources to do that then it would give more legitamacy to what I am doing. Do you have any links from sites like that or know how to get them?

I really appreciate you mentioning my theme! It's going well so far - lots of downloads. Bittbox is one of my favorite sites too. (by the way, you typed "Blue Hate SEO", instead of Hat :)
